A New Year's Greeting from the Masumoto's

The Masumoto Family welcomes you to a new yearFavorite Moments of 2009

Korio MasumotoKorio (18): Starting my senior year; watching Barack Obama’s speech about education addressed to students, “He spoke directly to me;” finishing my first half marathon; going to Hmong New Year with my friends (yes, he did the ball toss), taking my Baachan (my grandmother) gambling.

Nikiko MasumotoNikiko (24): Going to the Inauguration; coming home to a phone message from UT saying that my application was “stellar,” discovering peach gazpacho; performing Selena; moving to Austin (despite Mas rooting against the Longhorns forever); and buying my first pair of cowboy boots.

Marcy: Witnessing Michelle Obama as commencement speaker at UC Merced; dinners by Dan Barber in New York at Blue Hill/Stone Barns and Manhattan; successfully connecting presenters from Virginia to 10 different central Cal school district sites for interactive video conferences, and organizing the first valley-wide Exemplary Practices in Education Conference; hosting Martha Stewart’s crew for photography and peach cooking experiences in our new “portable kitchen” during harvest; visiting Kiko in Austin.

Mas Masumoto with his parentsMas: Teaching my 82 year old mom how to text; adopting a young German short-haired pointer; new book, Wisdom of the Last Farmer, published and being translated into Chinese and chosen Best Environmental Journalism as posted on Huffington Post; updating our webpage so it’s now 21st century-esk.

Hopes for 2010

Mas: I hope to invent a time machine so I can squeeze more into each day and year.

Marcy Masumoto's parentsMarcy: That our respective sets of parents/grandparents maintain their health, Mas starts  doing Yoga to maintain his,  the family travels to Japan for the 2010 holidays, and we get to visit with friends whom we have not seen in a very long time.

Nikiko: End to the wars and occupations in Iraq and Afghanistan; to improve my foreign language skills in Spanish and German, and to continue to grow as a successful student and teacher.

Korio:  To continue to run, get decent grades, start college in the fall, and to celebrate 2010 and the year of the tiger!

Peach be with you for 2010,
